I’ve always liked being able to find interesting and intelligent information and conversations online. I think it all started with people posting links on IRC and on forums. From there it went on to social networks. Of course MySpace was first, but when that was overrun with garbage and profiles that gave me a siezure…
Not Blogging as Much…
Well as you may have noticed my blogging has been a little dry lately. I mean the main reasons really is that I have been super busy, but after thinking about it there are a few different reasons why my blogging has slowed down. I think the biggest reasons is all of the micro-blogging platforms…
Using Twitter Search to Start a Conversation
By now you have probably have heard all of the hype about Twitter. Everyone uses Twitter these days, it is sort of stupid to not use twitter if you have a company or brand. You cannot just setup a twitter account and post updates and expect to get a ton of followers and people interested…
Easy Ways to Bring People Back to Your Website
One thing that I end up doing a lot is going to a website and really liking the content, but then totally forgetting about the website and never being able to find it again. While this is annoying to me, it can’t be a good thing for the site owner. With any website I’ve ever…
Backupify – Secure Your Online Life
I use many online services and I’m sure you do too. If you don’t think you do you probably at least have a Facebook account. So you put tons of photos on there, write long notes, get tagged in photos etc. What if for some reason Facebook crashed and you lost all of those images and other important things on Facebook? This is very unlikely to happen, but it is always good to have a backup of everything. This is where Backupify comes in. It’s a service that backs up many cloud services and for a limited time (till Jan 31st) the service is free.
In Vegas for a Week
Well it’s that time of year again, off to Vegas for CES. This trip is always a lot of fun and it sure gives me a break from all of the holiday madness of the past month. It also is good to get out of Pittsburgh and the cold, although it is only around 50 degrees in Vegas it is sure a lot better than like 15-20 degrees in Pittsburgh, and there is no snow!
Tracking Events on Twitter
I have been using Twitter for quite some time now and I really did not find out its potential until a few months ago. Many people think that Twitter is just for seeing what your friends are up to or in my case seeing what I’m having to eat, but it is really a useful resource for tracking current events and things that are going on right this minute. This is really where you see the power of Twitter and why hashtags are extremely useful.
My 2009 Year in Review
Wow it’s 2010! Not only a new year, but a new decade! This past year was a very good year for me, there were all kinds of ups, downs, and in between’s. If you have a blog you know how great it is that you are able to look back on things you have done and be able to see the good times, reflect on your mistakes, and just remember some things you may have forgot. So here is my 2009 year in review, hope you all enjoy it!
bit.ly and Why I Use It
If you have not heard of bit.ly I’m sure you have seen a bit.ly link around somewhere. Bit.ly is a URL shortening service that allows you to take large URL like this: http://www.thinkcomputers.org/kingston-mobilelite-g2-usb-card-reader-with-8gb-sdhc-card-review/ and turn it into something like this: http://bit.ly/6IBH75. So what is the reason to shorten a URL? URL shortening makes it easier…
Old Media Using New Media
When I was registering for PodCamp Pittsburgh 4 I noticed that 96.1’s Morning Freak Show hosts Mikey and Big Bob were leading a session called, “We Do a Radio Show … But Not Really”. I listen to the Freak Show in the morning and I also follow both Mikey and Big Bob on Twitter so…
